Effective August 4, 2026
Slop Hound is built to respect your privacy. It has no accounts, shows no ads, and contains no analytics or tracking. Unless you use Analyze with AI, nothing you do in the app leaves your device. In fact, the app does not even need an internet connection — listening, transcription, and scoring all work fully offline. The only feature that uses the internet at all is the optional Analyze with AI.
We do not collect personal information, we do not create user accounts, and we do not use advertising identifiers or third-party tracking of any kind.
When you tap Listen, the app uses your microphone to transcribe nearby audio into text entirely on your device. Your voice and audio never leave your device: the app does not record, save, or transmit any audio anywhere, and it is never sent to Anthropic or any other third party. Audio captured by the microphone may include voices or sounds from people or media around you; Slop Hound does not identify individuals. Only the resulting transcript text is kept, for the duration of the session, and it stays on your phone unless you explicitly choose to analyze it with AI (see below).
Speech-to-text runs on your device using WhisperKit, an open-source speech-recognition framework, together with OpenAI's open-source Whisper model and its tokenizer. These components are freely available under permissive open-source licenses (WhisperKit and Whisper under the MIT License; the tokenizer library under the Apache 2.0 License), and the model and tokenizer files are published on Hugging Face. They are bundled inside the app and run entirely on your phone — no cloud service is involved in transcription, and no audio is uploaded to perform it.
Transcripts (from listening or from text you paste) are generated on your device and kept in memory for the duration of your session. They are not uploaded anywhere by default. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of any transcribed content complies with applicable laws, including copyright. In many situations, creating temporary transcripts for personal use or accessibility may fall under “fair use,” but Slop Hound does not provide legal advice and cannot determine whether any particular use qualifies.
Trademarks: Slop Hound is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anthropic, PBC. “Claude” and “Anthropic” are trademarks of Anthropic, PBC, referenced only to describe the optional third-party service this app can connect to using your own API key.
The one feature that sends anything off your device is Analyze with AI, and it is entirely optional. The button appears only after you add your own Anthropic API key, and it runs only when you tap it and confirm the one-time in-app consent prompt. When you do, the app sends the current transcript text — the words being scored, whether transcribed on your device or pasted in — to Anthropic (Anthropic, PBC), the third-party AI company that makes Claude, over the internet, authenticated with your key. It is used only to produce the analysis you asked for. Along with your transcript, the app sends a fixed set of scoring instructions we wrote; these contain none of your data. Your voice and audio are never sent — only the transcript text — and the developer of Slop Hound never receives or stores your transcripts.
We share this transcript only with Anthropic, and only for the analysis you request. Anthropic's published policies (summarized below) provide protections for that data comparable to those described in this Privacy Policy.
When you choose to send a transcript to Anthropic, you act as the data controller for that submission under your Anthropic account.
Once a transcript reaches Anthropic it is handled under Anthropic's terms, not ours, and under your Anthropic account. As of July 22, 2026, Anthropic's published policy is that, by default, it does not use commercial API inputs or outputs to train its models, and it automatically deletes API inputs and outputs from its systems within 30 days — longer only in limited cases, such as content flagged for policy violations, or if your account has a different arrangement (for example, zero data retention). These are Anthropic's policies and can change; for the current details see Anthropic on model training and on data retention.
If you provide an Anthropic API key, it is stored securely in your device's Keychain and is used only to authenticate your own requests to Anthropic. It is never sent anywhere else. You can remove it any time in Settings.
Slop Hound is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Because we collect and store nothing off your device, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Removing your API key in Settings then deleting the app removes all locally stored information.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above.
